Hafa Adai from AGA Guam Chapter,

It is my honor to welcome you to this Program Year 2022-2023.

As your new AGA Guam Chapter President, I have the privileged to attend the LEAD Training in April this year in Baltimore and the most recent Professional Development Conference (PDT 2022) held in Anaheim, California. It was a training and conference combined with networking opportunities. The outgoing AGA National President Gerry Boaz, CGFM, CPA, CGMA, program year’s theme was focused on “Thought Leadership and Problem Solver.” As he passed the gavel to Melinda Miguel, CIG, CFSA, CICA, PMP, new AGA National President her theme’s focus for this year’s is “Building Bridges and Cultivating Collaborations.”

Following both their visions, our theme is “Leveraging Perpetual Learning and Diversity to thrive in today's rapidly changing world.” It is my desire to emphasize the importance of investing in oneself in continued professional education regardless of your career state in life to gain the knowledge and understanding to better improve your job effectiveness. Diversity is in capitalizing on the AGA rebranding which opens to other professionals beyond government accountants as it Advanced Government Accountability. To be successful in its mission, AGA needs to be inclusive of all professionals who work to ensure good government, transparency, and accountability.

Our program year’s vision is also focused on 1) Membership Engagement 2) Expanding Reach 3) Technology Maximization and 4) Succession Planning for future AGA Guam Chapter Leaders. Currently, the chapter has over 250 members and counting. We want to continue the chapter strong as we ensure members are kept engaged and see the value of their membership. It is also our desire to reach out to outer islands to be Guam’s satellite chapter and take advantage of the virtual training opportunities we offer.

For over decades, as technology evolves, we also see the need for our chapter to continue to advance on technology such as digitizing its records, using various affordable platforms, QR codes, and adopt to paperless. It is also our desire to emphasize succession planning, creating more leaders that will step up to the plate and take the lead, willing to be cross-trained especially with young professionals in volunteerism.

To increase responsiveness in communications, we have added 3 generic emails in addition to our main email (agaguamchapter@gmail.com) so members can easily reach out to their respective committees:

  1. agaguamchapterevents@gmail.com
Use for Goggle Forms to pre-register on events that tie in with the chapter PayPal Account

  2. agaguamchapterpresident@gmail.com
Repository of chapter executive committee resources and electronic files which will be passed on to the next chapter president

  3. agaguamchaptermembership@gmail.com
The email account is dedicated to our members of which they can inquire about their membership, which we also intend to use for membership surveys.

I am also excited to share that we are looking to have our traditional-in person Guam Professional Development Conference (GPDC) that is tentatively scheduled this January 2023. Please save the date!

I also urged you to read our award-winning Newsletter that our volunteer committees had put so much effort to put together monthly. Please also follow us on our Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn.

Also, please take the time to also read my monthly President’s Message which will focus on 3 parts 1) Throw Back 2) In the Now, and 3) Take Aways. As I pay it forward and give justice to the position entrusted to me, I wish to impart some of my important life lessons.

Let us walk the talk of our tagline and take the AGA Guam Chapter to new heights as we, Advance, Grow, and Accelerate in our personal and professional life.

Si Yu’s Ma’ase,
